Hey there and thank you very much for your comments! I took a look at your gallery and the drawings are really really nice. My advice as far as the manes and tails go is to remember that you are going to have both darks and lights, as well as layers. The bottom layer is your darkest, you have midtones on your middle layers, and then the highlights will be on the top layers. Trying to do that sort of thing, tackling it as a 3D object instead of a flat one, will create the sense of it really being 3D.
A great way to practice this is doing life drawings. Photos make everything look so flat, but in real life, you can easily see that the manes and tails are flowy and have tops and bottoms and darks and lights, just like the body of the horse has.
